VILLETTE (marquis de)
Works. Edinburgh and is in Paris, Clousier, Pichard, Bailly, Desenne, 1788. In-8, XII and 350 pp.: long-grained lemon morocco, double framed with gilt and cold gilt fillets and roulette, spine decorated in the boxes with a decoration of small cold irons arranged around a gilt ring, gilt title, inner Greek, gilt edges (young Bozerian). Third collective edition, the most complete. Printed on Dutch paper, it follows the editions of 1784 and 1786. The sulphurous Marquis de Villette (1736-1793) was very close to Voltaire: several of the letters he sent to Ferney are published here. Superb copy bound by François Bozerian dit le jeune, in an exquisite shade of morocco. From the Valentin Mourié library, with its curious full-page engraved ex-libris, probably the commissioner of the binding. Bookplate of the banker and fencer Jean Stern (1875-1962).
