LIBER PSALMORUM. Paris, Frédéric Léonard,... - Lot 50 - Giquello
LIBER PSALMORUM. Paris, Frédéric Léonard, 1697. Petit in-12, 156 pp. and 2 ff.n.ch.: fawn morocco, mosaic border made of four brown morocco stripes decorated with gilded crossbars, red morocco disc decorated with gilded curved rays in the corners, decorated spine, mosaic motifs in the boxes, red title coin, Havana morocco lining decorated with a cold roulette, gilt edges (early 18th century binding). Set copy, in a charming mosaic binding and lined by Antoine-Michel Padeloup. One of the bookbinder's favourite motifs is to be found in the corners: the wheel with curved spokes. This binding is very close to the one reproduced in the catalogue of the Raphael Esmerian sale (II, 1972, nº 87), covering the same work. From the Henri Beraldi library (I, 1934, no. 55: the binding is mistakenly attributed to Luc-Antoine Boyet, because of the lace on the lining, reproduced by Gruel in his Manuel, vol. I, p. 61). Small rubbing at the corners.
