MISSALE ROMANUM. Venice, Cieras, 1676. In-folio, 16 ff.n.ch. (including the engraved title-frontispiece), 447 and LXXXVI pp., 1 f.n.ch. (index); red morocco, dishes entirely decorated with a large fanfare decoration painted black, the oval or diamond-shaped compartments arranged around a central cartouche of four-lobed form, the whole decorated with numerous small gilt irons and fleurons including small stars arranged in semé and besants, smooth spine decorated in the same way lengthwise, gilt and chased edges on marbling, five tabs of pink cloth (period binding). Venetian edition printed in Roman characters on two columns, in red and black, decorated with an elegant set of initials on wood and illustrated with 5 large copper engraved plates including an allegorical title-frontispiece with a portrait in medallion of Pope Innocent XI and 4 biblical figures included in the pagination. Remarkable 17th century Italian binding, decorated in the style of fanfares, with compartments painted black and numerous gilded irons. Among the small irons used, in addition to gold bezants and fan motifs, there are small fleurs-de-lis arranged in a row to delimit the painted borders of the compartments, as well as four irons curved in the shape of scrolls and partly filigree, juxtaposed one against the other and placed in oval medallions on the plates. Two leaves added at the end of the volume. Tears repaired on folios N2 and N3, marginal slit on folio d4. Some freckles. Skillful restorations to the jaws.
