COLLECTION of various pieces used in the history of Henry III, King of France and Poland. Cologne, Hammerstone [Wolfgang], 1666. In-12, 600 pp.: olive-green morocco, small gilt lace; in the center, an irregularly shaped cartouche mosaic of red and decorated with small irons; smooth spine decorated, red title coin, boxes decorated with small irons with small lemon or red lozenge-shaped pieces, inner wheel, gilt lining and endpapers, gilt edges on marbling (binding ca. 1730). Famous satirical collection. This is a forgery of the 1666 Elzevirian edition. Charming mosaic binding from the Atelier des Petits Classiques. The Parisian workshop called "des Petits Classiques" by Michon was in activity from 1720 to 1740 approximately. (Michon, Les Reliures mosaïques du XVIIIe siècle, pp. 49-50, 118 and pl. XLII.) Nice gilt paper with flower motifs used for the lining and endpapers. From the libraries of Parat de Chalandray, Receiver General of Finances of Lorraine (engraved armorial bookplates of the 18th century), and Carlo de Poortere (bookplates). Beginning of a crack in a bit which was formerly restored.
