Ciceronis consul, senator, senatusq; Romanus. De statu rerum Romanarum. Paris, Jean Corbon, 1612. In-8, 8 ff.n.ch., 374 pp. (badly figured 364), 1 f.n.ch. (errata): flexible wove vellum, double gilt fillet, medallion of foliage in the centre, smooth spine decorated, gilt edges (contemporary binding). Original edition: it is embellished with a large full-page emblem, finely engraved in intaglio by Leonard Gaultier, depicting three hearts under a crown, symbolising the three princes of Great Britain: Prince Henry, to whom the edition is dedicated, Prince Charles (the future King Charles I) and Princess Elisabeth. A work on the obligations and duties of senators and consuls under ancient Rome, by William Bellenden, a Scottish diplomat who professed the humanities at the University of Paris, who died in the second quarter of the 17th century. A very pure, ruled copy, in the golden vellum of the time. Minimal stains on the back.
