Basel, Heinrich Petri, August 1560. 3 volumes in-8, of 15 and 816 pp.; 838 pp. and 1 f.n.c.; 404 pp. and 74 f.n.c.: flexible wove vellum, gilt fillet crossing at the corners, oval medallion gilt in the centre with the centre left in reserve, smooth spine decorated with double fillets and small gilt fleuron repeats, gilt edges (contemporary binding). Rare edition including, in addition to the Metamorphoses or the Golden Ass in the version commented by Philippe Béroalde, the Floridum libri IIII, the De dogmate Platon, the De philosophia, the De mundo or the De medicaminibus herbarum. Printed in italics and roman characters. The dedicatory epistle, dated August 1560, is signed by Marc Hopper, a Swiss jurisconsult who died of the plague in 1565. Copy with abundant handwritten notes from the 16th century. In the first volume, in particular, some margins are entirely covered with pen comments. Beautiful gilt vellum binding of the period. The plates are decorated with an elegant oval medallion with interlacing decoration on an azure background, the middle one left in reserve. Antique manuscript ex-libris at the top of the titles. Handwritten ex-libris repeated at the bottom of the titles by Antoine-Nicolas Herbault, King's advisor to the Conseil supérieur de l'Île-de-France in the 18th century. Bookplates from the Georges Dubois library (catalogue V, 1966, no. 3). Some spots and light freckles.
