TASSE (LE)
Jerusalem delivered, new translation with the life of the Cup and historical notes from the chronicles of the Crusades and Arab historians of the 11th century. Paris, Knab, 1838. In-8, long-grain black half-maroquin, ornate back, gold head, untrimmed, cover and back (Durvand). Frontispiece depicting two figures in medieval costume leaning against the medallion portrait of the Cup and 20 pretty plates out of text, all woodcut after Joseph Lecurieux. Each of the engravings bears a legend in Gothic letters, and the indication of the song (except for songs 1 to 3). The text is embellished with a few thumbnails. First draw. It is the first work printed in France on a machine by the "cuttings" process called Aristide, the woods being pulled without setting up. A steel engraving with the legend Death and Apotheosis of the Cup, engraved on steel by Pauquet after Ducis, has been added at the head of the volume.
