The Old Towns of Flanders. Belgium and French Flanders. Paris, Dorbon, n.d. [1908]. Large in-8, aubergine half-marroquin with corners, spine ribbed with gold title, head gilt, untrimmed, cover and spine (P. Affolter). Original edition, illustrated in the first edition of 155 compositions, including 25 off-text and an etching frontispiece depicting the Aalst town hall. One of the 25 copies on imperial japan, this one including a suite on thin japan of the illustrations and the cover, and the frontispiece in 3 states (pure etching, state before the letter with remark, and final state). It is further enriched by a beautiful original pen and watercolour drawing on strong paper, mounted at the head of the volume and depicting the interior of the Steen in Antwerp (p. 175).
