BARBIERI (Nicolo)
La Supplica, discorso famigliare. Venice, Marco Ginammi, 1634. In-8, flexible wove paper, smooth spine with title in ink, author's name in ink on lower edge (contemporary binding). Filippi, n°195. Partly original edition, decorated with a beautiful intaglio engraved title-frontispiece depicting Beltrame in theatre costume with his half mask with hooked nose and pointed beard. The first edition was published in Ferrara in 1628. An important plea in favour of the profession of actor and modern comedy, due to Nicolo Barbieri (1576-1641), actor and director who played one of the typical characters of the Commedia dell'Arte: Beltrame. In addition to its apologetic character, the book contains interesting details about the drama and the troops of the time. Clear freckles and wetness to a few leaves
