Cortigiana comedia. S.l.n.a. [to the colophon]: Milan, Giovanni Antonio Castiglione, 1535. In-8, brown basane, cold stamped border, spine with three raised bands (contemporary Italian binding). Very rare Milanese edition of La Courtisane, a comedy by the sulphurous L'Arétin composed in 1525, then reworked and published for the first time in 1534 in Venice. Printed in Roman characters, the title placed in a pretty woodcut border embellished with portraits in medallions depicting Caesar, Pompey, Cleopatra, Janus and Alexander the Great. Only 3 copies of this edition are listed in the Italian union catalogue (Milan, Modena and Rome). Angular tear on sheets A2 and F2 with loss of text, wet spots. Scrubbed binding, caps torn off
