ANONYME - Début du XVIIe siècle
Square table clock in gilt and silvered bronze with a single striking hand on the way. Chiselled case with foliated motifs, the four glass sides to see the mechanism on the edge, the four claw feet in silvered metal. Ring dial in silvered metal with Roman numerals, the part in the centre with a scroll motif. Single golden metal hand. Movement with gold-plated brass plate, single-point cock, verge escapement, stackfreed spring, single hammer strike on bell. Probably a work from the Augsburg area. (Wear and tear and restorations of use) Height. 9 cm Width. 12 cm On this table clock the use of stackfreed is a rare and infrequent mechanical system which is found especially on pieces made until the beginning of the 17th century, especially in Germany with the beginning of the miniaturization of clocks. Its name derives from two German words, "stack", which means strong, and "freed", which means spring. This strong spring is a support to regulate the driving force of the clock and is identifiable on the movement's plate. Its braking action makes it possible to have for the first time in mechanical table clocks a greater precision. It will be used for almost a century. Few examples from this period have survived.
