COURVOISIER HOURIET Fin du XVIIIe siècle
Silver "Arm-in-the-Arm" watch. Hinged case with smooth bottom, a frieze on the circumference of the dial. Polychrome enamel dial with a figure in the centre with an automaton function for the indication of hours and minutes by means of its arms, by triggering the pendant. In the centre, the figure is dressed in an oriental costume with a lake scene in the background showing a mill leaning against the hill. Double graduation with stylised Arabic numerals. Chiselled and pierced rooster movement, with verge escapement, rocket and chain, spiral balance, adjusting disc, signed on the plate. Diam. 60 mm Gross weight: 138.6 g Jacques Frédéric Houriet (1743-1830) was born in La Chaux d'Abel. Having worked with the greatest watchmakers of his time, such as Pierre Le Roy and Ferdinand Berthoud, who was also a friend of Abraham Louis Breguet during his stay in Paris, this watchmaker left his mark on the history of watchmaking in the Age of Enlightenment. On his return to Le Locle in Switzerland, he founded a company with his brother-in-law David Courvoisier, which he ran for 40 years. This movement, signed Courvoisier Houriet, bears witness to the dexterity of this master watchmaker, as very few examples of "Bras-en-l'air" have survived until today.
