LE SUEUR à Gisors - Milieu du XVIIe siècle
Gilded metal coach clock watch with striking on the way. Hinged case, the whole is chiselled and openworked with stylized foliage and flower motifs, the pierced back reveals the striking bell. Single-hand dial, silvered circle with Roman numerals for the hours, a fleur-de-lys for the half hours, the chiselled centre of fruits and flowers. Movement with a chiselled cockerel pierced with foliage motifs, adjusting racket, verge escapement, spiral pre-balance wheel, rocket with gut string, signed on the plate "Le Sueur à Gisors" (Sweat in Gisors). Accompanied by a chiselled and pierced watch key with stylised motifs. Diam. 75mm This watch is described and illustrated in Bernard Seneca, la montre de carrosse et temps mesuré du voyage, Arras 2013, p. 58. The name Le Sueur is mentioned in the Dictionnaire des Horlogers Français, Tardy, p. 411 "Le Sueur Louis. Rouen. Juror 1663".
