École cubiste, début du XXe siècle
Still life with violin Oil, pasted paper and sand on canvas (original canvas), unsigned 92 x 74.5 cm In the manner of Georges Braque, Juan Gris, Henri Laurens or Pablo Picasso, this work is in the pure taste of synthetic cubism which succeeded in 1912 to the hermetic analytical cubism. The period of synthetic cubism is characterised by the nuanced return of colour and by the use of the technique of glued paper or pictorial compositions made up of several materials. The first glued paper is a work by Georges Braque: "Compotier et verre" in 1912. The painter selects the most relevant facets of the deconstructed object; elements of reality are reintroduced, in particular by gluing paper, giving indications of the material of the represented object. The collage, the monochrome of colours from grey to brown, the oval composition, the subject of the music, make our work, by its aesthetic codes, a composition very close to illustrious works of Cubism.
