Large in-8, brown morocco, wide frieze with an antique red mosaic, back decorated in the same way, inner wheel, red morocco lining decorated with palmette lace, blue-grey silk endpapers, golden edges, untrimmed, cover (J. Bretault). Edition based on the translation by Jacques Amyot, revised, corrected and completed by Paul-Louis Courier: the famous Letter on a Stain on a Manuscript from Florence, written by the latter to the bookseller Renouard in 1810, is reprinted at the end of the volume. 41 compositions by Raphaël Collin engraved with etching by Champollion. One of the 50 copies on japan, with the frontispiece engraved especially for the luxury copies (3 states) and the engravings in triple state, including the pure etchings with remarks. Beautiful copy in lined binding and mosaic.
