HOURS USING ANGELS. Paris, Simon Vostre, n.d. [circa 1510]. In-4, fawn calf, black scroll and gilt fillets in frame, large decoration of interlacing and leather scrolls organized around a central oval shape, central cartouche in reserve decorated with a compartment with gilt fillets, all enhanced with multicoloured waxes (grey, black, green), spine decorated with Aldine irons, gilt edges (Binding of the period). Bohatta, number 18. Very rare book of hours for the use of Angers, printed on vellum, illustrated with Simon Vostre's magnificent wooden suite. Calendar for 21 years, from 1510 to 1530. The illustration includes a title bearing the mark of Simon Vostre in a frame with various borders, the figure of the anatomical man, that of the Jesse tree, 14 beautiful full-page woodcuts, and 7 mid-page woodcuts including the figure of the Grail. Each page is decorated with a large frame bearing various woodcut suites: the story of Susanna and the Elders, scenes from the Old and New Testaments, a Dance of the Dead for the men (30 scenes) and another for the women (36 scenes), and various decorative motifs. Important interlacing binding with leather scrolls and scrolls embellished with green, silver or gold wax. Two images added at the beginning of the volume, one of them (17th century) coloured. Restored and re-slit hinges and caps. Some friction. Two large woods were later stained.
