RHIN (The) monumental and picturesque. Text by Mr. L. Hymans. Brussels, Ghent, Leipzig, Charles Muquardt; London, Atchley and Co. around 1855]. In-folio, brown sorrow, wide cold border, first dish decorated with a relief composition, the gilded title on five lines in the centre, ribbed back with the inscription in gilded letters Cologne to Mainz, inner roller, lining and guards of ivory moiré paper, gilded edges (editor's binding). Album of 30 beautiful plates drawn and lithographed in several shades by Théodore Fourmois, Paul Lauters and François Stroobant, representing views and monuments of the Rhine region. Each lithograph is protected by a snake. Remarkable binding by the publisher decorated on the first plate with a large composition of Gothic architecture in relief. Slight scattered freckles. Minimal friction in the binding.
