PINHEIRO DE CHAGAS (Joaquim) et Simao José da LUZ SORIANO]
As noites do Barracao. Passadas pelos emigrados portuguez em Inglaterra, em verso alexandrino. Paris, Aillaud[Angra (Azores), Joaquim José Soares?], 1834. 36-page in-16 leaflet, including title, soft cardboard of cherry moire, silent cover of the preserved period, half-marble red slipcase (modern binding). Canto, Ensaio bibliographico..., n°1152. - Innocencio, Diccionario bibliographico portuguez, t. VI, pp. 301-302. Unique edition, probably printed in Angra in the Azores. A very rare collection of six satirical poems denouncing the Portuguese civil war of 1828-1834, attributed to Joaquim Pinheiro de Chagas (1809-1859) and Simao José de Luz Soriano (1802-1891). The typographical characters and imperfections of this booklet led Innocencio to believe that it was a clandestine edition printed in Angra in 1834, a hypothesis supported by Canto, who quoted an ad published in Iris de Terceira in 1838, which mentioned that Noites were sold at Joaquin José Soares in Angra. Stained blanket, some freckles and haloes.
