In this book, dedicated to members of the Royal Academy of Sciences in Paris, Jean-André de Luc (1727-1817), a physicist and naturalist from Geneva, gives a detailed history of the barometer with observations made by Pascal, Mairan, Bernoulli, Huygens, La Hire, Descartes, etc., and explains its construction and use. An exemplary pleasure in a very pretty binding from a Swiss workshop. Handwritten bookplates on titles. Small marginal repair at the top of sheet Z1 in Volume I. A few leaves switched to the second volume, light freckles. Friction in the binding.
