LAMARCK. — BOTANIQUE
Collection of 29 18th century engravings, including 27 exotic plants and their fruits (cocoa, mangosteen, papaya, Arabian jasmine, etc.), one engraving representing an armadillo and another showing the doors of the Balbeck temple. In-8, rigid vellum, red edges (Binding from the second half of the 18th century). Collection probably compiled and annotated by the naturalist Jean-Baptiste de Lamarck (1744-1829), as indicated by this handwritten note on a guard: This collection of I do not know which plates is only curious by the handwritten names that are in Lamarck's hand. It was given to me by this famous botanist[Drapiez's signature]. Dry stamp of Pierre-Auguste Joseph Drapiez (17778-1856), a Belgian naturalist who wrote a beautiful book on plants, the Sertum botanicum (1828-1832). Manuscript bookplates from the 19th century in purple ink: Leleux. The plates come mostly from an in-12 edition of Gemelli Careri's Voyage du tour du monde; cut to the square line, they were mounted on strong paper.
