GUGLIELMINI (Domenico)
Della natura de' fiumi. Trattato Fisico-Matematico. Bologna, Heirs of Antonio Pisarri, 1697. In-4, granite calf, decorated back, slices speckled with red (period binding). Poggendorff, t. I, col. 974. - Riccardi, t. I, col. 645. Original edition, decorated with an allegorical frontispiece and 15 folding plates engraved on copper. An important treatise on hydraulics that made Domenico Guglielmini (1655-1710), mathematician and doctor who taught in Padua, famous for his lasting fame: the subject of the book comes from the author's experience as steward of the waters of the province of Bologna. D. Guglielmini, considered the founder of the naturalistic approach to rivers, shows that the study of the "hydraulic body" and the "human body" must be based on similar methods. ...] the author thus paves the way for dynamic approaches (Jean-Paul Bravard, Crises sédimentaires du globe, 2018, p. 54). Split jaws, missing the upper cap, a very blunt corner.
