Opus Merlini Cocaii Poete Mantuani Macaronicorum. S.l.n.d. [at the colophon] : Toscolano, Alessandro Paganini, January 5, 1521. In-16, brown half calf, decorated back, slices speckled with red (modern binding). A much sought-after edition, more complete than the two previous ones, of this adventurous chronicle of the defrocked poet and monk Teofilo Folengo (1491-1544). Illustrated with 54 full-page woods, it was printed in Toscolano (near Brescia on Lake Garda), on the presses of the Venetian typographer Alessandro Paganini. Manuscript bookplates From Captain Michiels' library and stamp with the same name at the bottom of the title. Without the last notebook (8 ff.), which is often missing from the copies. Maculature partially erased on the engraving f. 248 v°. Upper wetness on the whole volume, some short trimmed leaves. The title and dedication sheet are reinforced in the inner margin, with the loss of a few letters on the title and the engraving on the back (part of the missing frame redone with a pen).
