DEL RIO (Martin)
Disquisitionum magicarum libri sex. Venice, Vincent Florin, 1616. High volume in-4, rigid vellum, ribbed back, red title piece, blue slices (18th century binding). Rare treatise on demonology, by the Dutch Jesuit Martin Del Rio (1551-1608): This is an extremely rare and interesting book on the forms of procedure used against so-called witches and on the various forms of magic, as well as on prophecies and divination, in front of the dreadful court that the Flemish, terrorized, baptized with the significant name of "blood council" and of which Del Rio was one of the most ferocious judges (Caillet, n°2966, for the French edition of 1611). This Venetian edition is not mentioned by Caillet. It contains at the end of the volume copious indexes (51 sheets). Lack of paper in the side margin of pp. 137 to 570 (largely repaired), sometimes removing the cuff.
