DAL MONTE (Guidobaldo)
In duos Archimedis Aequeponderantium libros paraphrasis Scholiis illustrata. Pesaro, Hieronymus Concordia, 1588[1587 at the end]. In-folio, half vellum, speckled slices (19th century binding). Riccardi, t. II, col. 179. Original edition, illustrated with several geometric figures in the text. An important mathematics book in which the author paraphrases the works on statics developed by Archimedes in his famous treatise on the balance of planes. Guidobaldo Dal Monte (1545-1607), Galileo's master and friend, was one of the leading figures in mathematical science during the Renaissance. His Liber mechanicorum, published in 1577, is considered to be the greatest book of mechanics since Archimedes. Light freckles, last notebook washed and a little yellowed. Restoration at the bottom of the last two sheets.
