DACIANO (Gioseffo)
Trattato della peste, et delle petecchie. Venice, Christoforo Zanetti, 1576. Small in-4, soft vellum, laces (modern binding). First edition of this rare and important treatise on the plague. The book, which made the reputation of Gioseffo Daciano (1520-1576), a doctor from the municipality of Udine, is valuable for the observations he made at the bedside of his patients in the 1550-1570s, as he was one of the first to distinguish true bubonic fever from other contagious fevers (see Samuel K. Cohn, Cultures of Plague..., 2010, pp. 176-177 and 253). Several short cut sheets with pagination infringement.
