Treaty on shipbuilding. Brest, Malassis; Paris, Durand, Jombert, 1781. In-4, marbled basane, decorated back, green title piece, red slices (period binding). Second edition in French, illustrated with 20 technical plates, most of which are unfolded. An important shipbuilding treaty by Swedish admiral and engineer Frederic-Henri Chapman (1721-1808). This edition, published two years after the first French version, was prepared by Honoré-Sébastien Vial du Clairbois (1733-1816), a naval engineer, member of the Royal Naval Academy and owner of a sailing factory in Brest. Copy printed on blue paper. Angular wetting mainly affecting the boards, with a small gap at pl. 15 (loss of the engraving number). Small binding restorations.
