BUONMATTEI (Benedetto)
I, n°842-862. - Praz, p. 291. Original edition. A festive book relating to the canonization in 1629 of Saint Andrew Corsini (1302-1373), Italian Carmelite and Bishop of Fiesole, describing the religious festivities organised for this occasion in Florence three years later (the Tuscan city, ravaged by the plague in 1629-1631, could not at the time celebrate the event). Pretty illustration engraved on copper by Stefano della Bella, including a frontispiece title featuring a procession and 20 mid-page engravings in the text representing the life and miracles of the saint: each of these scenes are presented in a frame and are accompanied in the lower part by a cartouche bearing an emblem. A few stains on the fake title.
