Research on the use of leaves in plants, and on some other topics related to the history of vegetation. Gottingue & Leiden, Elijah Luzac, son, 1754. In-4, cardboard, uncut, uncut (Binding of the time). Pritzel, n°981. Original edition, decorated with a vignette on the title and 31 folding plates engraved intaglio by Schley and Wandelaar. The Geneva naturalist Charles Bonnet (1720-1793) made important discoveries in the fields of zoology, entomology and botany. In 1741, following his work on aphid reproduction, he became a correspondent of the Paris Academy of Sciences and a partner of the Royal Society of London. His book contains five memoirs on the functions and shape of leaves. On the first dish, printed label of Mathieu Magaillan, Libraire François in Milan under the Arcades des Figini & Pavia opposite the University. A modern ex-libris. Small freckles on the title, more pronounced on a few pages.
