ZOROASTRE
Zend-Avesta, containing the Theological, Physical & Moral Ideas of this Legislator, the Ceremonies of Religious Worship that he established, & several important features relating to the ancient history of Persia. Paris, Tilliard, 1771. 2 volumes in 3 volumes in-4, red semi-marble with long grain, gilded net, smooth back decorated with rock irons, gilded edges (Binding from the middle of the 19th century). Original edition, decorated with 13 copper-engraved plates (most of them leaflets) showing a priest in prayer, old inscriptions, objects of worship, etc. Important work for the knowledge of Zoroastrianism, a monotheistic religion initiated by Zarathustra (Zoroaster in Greek), translated and published by Anquetil du Perron, a famous academician skilled in oriental languages. A Zend-pelhvi-Persian-French vocabulary is found in pp. 432-526 of the last volume. Old biographical note on the translator stuck on the fake title of the first volume. Volume III: back detached from the volume, a scorched table notebook. A few freckles, clear wetness more or less important on several leaves. Rubbing on the headdresses, hanging on the upper headdress of volume III.
