VENTURA (Laurent)
De ratione consiciendi Lapidis philosophici, liber unus. Basel, s.n. [Perna], 1571. In-8, granite basane, cold net, decorated back, red title piece, red speckled edges (18th century binding). Duveen, 601. - Ferguson, t. II, p. 505. Very rare first edition of the alchemical treatise by Lorenzo Ventura, a Venetian hermetic philosopher of the 16th century. Dedicated to the Count Palatine Ottheinrich, the first Paracelsian patron, and published by Guillaume Rascalon, it contains the interesting poem on the Pantheora stone composed by the author in 34 verses in Italian (Aenigma della pietra phisica, pp. 200-201). This "collective" edition must contain two other parts in separate paginations (treatises by Jean Garlande and Vincent de Beauvais) which are not present here. Some underlined and annotations in pen, a cuff drawn in ink in the margin of p. 122. Hole deleting a few letters on the fourth introductory sheet, minimal freckles on the title. Little missing from the headdress.
