Apology for all the great characters who have been falsely suspected of magic. The Hague, Adrian Vlac, 1653. In-8, granite calf, golden coat of arms in the centre, decorated back, slices speckled with red (Binding of the period). Interesting book by Gabriel Naudé, (1660-1653), doctor, bibliophile and librarian of Mazarin, first published in 1625. Among the great men falsely accused of magic or contact with the supernatural, are mentioned Pythagoras, Democritus, Aristotle, Cardan, Raymond Lulle, Arnaud de Villeneuve, Paracelsus, Henri Corneille d'Agrippa, Savonarola, Nostradamus, Bacon, Trithem, Albert the Great, etc.. Copy to the arms of a count, undetermined (knight wielding a sword and riding a golden bull). Freckles, worm gallery with several notebooks. Split hinges (partly restored), restoration to the caps.
