MANUSCRIT. — PROPHÉTIES
Prophecy of the Philosopher Joseph, born in Napples by Denis Lombart and Pierre Martelay in 1264. And the great prophecy of the prophet Ezra by Samuel in 1480. Amiens, 1737. In-4 manuscript (240 x 185 mm), 53 sheets, granite vellum, ribbed back, title in red ink, red speckled edges, modern case (18th century binding). Very curious manuscript of prophecies, dated 1737, probably copied from another manuscript or book of that time. The text gives forecasts of the weather, with the resulting advice for the purchase of wine and other foodstuffs, livestock, etc. It is accompanied by 2 handwritten plates with the edges folded, one representing in an architectural setting the wheels of the months, astrological signs, planets, days and seasons, the other a painting helping to divination (Almanac to cognate the year you will be). This manuscript of a beautiful 18th century writing opens with a title page whose layout resembles that of a print; the latter is decorated with a drawing copying the Quaerendo typographical mark, which is that of the Elzeviers of Amsterdam. It ends with approval from the Royal Academy of Sciences.
