Physica urusa data ab Amp. Cons. Doct. D. D. D. Coquette primario D. D. Amand secundario scripta ab Henrico Frederico Van Leemputten Sichemiensi in florentissimo pedagogio Lilii sub protexione panonorum. 1740. in-4 manuscript (185 x 150 mm) of about 700 pages, rigid vellum, ink title on the back, slices speckled with red (18th century binding). Important and beautiful mid-eighteenth century manuscript containing a complete course of science (astronomy, physics, astrology, mechanics, pneumatics, metaphysics, natural philosophy, medicine, etc.) taught by two professors from Lille to a Henri Van Leemputten, a student at the University of Louvain from Sichem in Brabant. It opens with a colored, intaglio engraved frontispiece title, the central cartouche of which bears the title in red ink. It is decorated with about twenty original pen drawings in the text or on a full page, one of which is interesting with a moving part of the human heart, the planetary systems of Ptolemy, Copernicus and Tycho Brahe, a folding world map, a coloured astrological plate, etc., and is enriched with 8 copper engravings from 17th and 18th century works.
