MANUSCRIT. — BURGOYNE (Thomas Henry)
The Light of Egypt or the Science of the Soul and the Stars. late 19th century - early 20th century]. In-4 manuscript (275 x 210 mm), anapistographer, 297 pages, half fawn calf, smooth back decorated, uncut, case (modern binding). Apparently unpublished French version of this Rosicrucian text. Burgoyne, whose real name was Thomas H. Dalton, published in London in 1889 under the title The Light of Egypt, a book in which he conveyed the teachings of the famous Hermetic Brotherhood of Luxor, an occultist society of which he was one of the founding members. The original French edition, translated by René Philipon, was printed a few years later, in 1895 by Chamuel (cf. Caillet, n°1814, and Godwin, The Hermetic Brotherhood of Luxor, p. 38). This new version is signed Marie Chauvel de Chauvigny († 1927), a woman known as Esclarmonde who was probably part of an esoteric circle. It has translation differences with the French edition and is decorated with 9 original pen and pen drawings outside the text.
