Fabularum liber, ad omnium poetarum lectionem. Eiusdem Poeticon Astronomicon Libri quartet. Lyon, Jean de Gabian, 1608. In-8, granite basane, gilded coat of arms in the centre, decorated back, slices speckled with red (17th century binding). Collection of ancient texts on astronomy and mythology, originally published in 1535 in Basel. It contains the famous books of the Latin scholar Hyginus, the Fabularum liber and the Poeticon astronomicon, in which the latter describes in particular the signs of the zodiac and their mythological correlations, the three books of the Mythologiarum of Fulgence, the Apparentia of Aratus or the De sphaera libellus of Proclus. Numerous allegorical figures of constellations, copies or imitations more or less close to engravings illustrating Hyginus editions printed in Venice at the beginning of the 16th century. Copy to the arms of a baron (shield charged with a raptor), undetermined. Old manuscript bookplates on the title, including one from a Jesuit college. Wet stamp almost erased repeated. Some wetting and freckles. Two shorter sheets (O4 and O5, with removal of the current title and pagination on the first of them). Bound restorations (upper cap, two jaws and one corner).
