GLAUBER (Johann Rudolph)
Operis mineralis. Amsterdam, Johannes Jansson, 1651-1652. - Miraculum mundi, Sive plena perfectaque descriptio admirabilis Naturae. Amsterdam, Jansson, 1653. Set of 2 books in one volume in-12, soft vellum, slices speckled with red (Binding of the time). Ferguson, t. I, p. 326. - Schuh, Mineralogy & cristallography, t. I, n°1903. Very rare first Latin editions. The Mineral Work is one of Glauber's (1604-1670) most important treatises on alchemy, a German chemist often described as the Paracelsus of his time. In Miraculum mundi (cf. Caillet, n°4576), the author describes the nature and properties of a supposed universal solvent, the famous drinking gold or alkahest, and indicates how to use it. Multi-leaf wetness, gallery of worms at the top of the first three notebooks and at the end of the volume (with suppression of letters in the second treatise). Some sheets are a little short in length. Restored lower back and first dish.
