The Works. Rouen, Jacques Caillové, 1640. 3 parts in one volume in-8, marbled calf, cold fillet, decorated back (modern pastiche binding). Caillet, n°3934. Original edition, adorned with a portrait on wood of the author, a curious figure of an "anatomical skeleton", a folding plate of chiromancy and several figures in the text. The highly sought-after work is by Jean Belot, priest of Mil-Mont and professor of divine & celestial sciences. It covers all aspects of chiromancy and physiognomy, contains a treatise on Raymond Lulle's art of memory, another on divinations, dreams and omens. There is also, on a separate page with a specific title page, a treatise on steganographic sciences. A palmistry sheet drawn with an added pen. Manuscript bookplate ex-libris of a student of Evreux, dated 1808. Consolidated folding sheet with a few words rewritten in pencil. Background of the restored title, gallery of verses on a few pages, small ink stain in the margin of about ten pages.
